Who You Are:
The ideal candidate for the role is a deeply experienced and technically proficient individual with a deep background in aluminum extrusion processes, preferably in the automotive industry. This candidate will possess a strong engineering foundation, potentially holding senior executive engineering positions in their previous roles and have a thorough understanding of the entire extrusion manufacturing process, including casting, shaping, and post-processing.
They must have a keen eye for process optimization, the ability to innovate and invent new methods, and a track record of successfully launching new programs and improving manufacturing stability. Knowledge of aluminum properties and the periodic table, as well as an understanding of quality control and maintenance practices, is crucial.
Given the complexity and precision required in producing parts with tight tolerances and demanding mechanical properties, this candidate should have a proven track record of collaboration with tier-1 automotive suppliers and other industry leaders. They should be adaptable and able to tinker with the organization’s structure to ensure the smooth integration of their expertise. Additionally, the candidate should ideally have some knowledge of the North American aluminum extrusion landscape, including key players and technical experts in the field.
Your Impact
The Director of Engineering, reporting to the General Manager, holds a crucial leadership position overseeing various technical and engineering functions, with a particular emphasis on aluminum extrusion. The primary objectives include enhancing and streamlining the manufacturing process, introducing new programs, and upholding the highest quality and performance standards. This leadership role oversees a team of 10-12, including the Director of Engineering, Technical Manager, and Program Manager, ensuring the reliability and safety of production processes.
What Are We Looking For?
Candidates must have the following experience to be considered:
- Industry Experience: 8+ years of experience in aluminum extrusion preferably in the automotive manufacturing industry.
- Leadership: Proven ability to lead and motivate engineering and technical professionals fostering a culture of accountability.
- Technical Skills: Strong Proficiency in automotive manufacturing processes, aluminum extrusion techniques, and associated equipment. Knowledge of quality control standards (e.g., ISO/TS 16949) and methodologies relevant to the automotive industry
- Change Management: Operational excellence, change management, process optimization, and re-engineering.
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, preferably in a relevant field of Mechanical, Automotive, or industrial Engineering
