This opportunity exists to strengthen and optimize the company’s purchasing and procurement functions. The newly created role of Director of Purchasing will enhance the company’s ability to manage its extensive SKU portfolio, drive strategic sourcing, and foster supplier relationships. This position will provide critical leadership in purchasing, demand forecasting, vendor management, and pricing strategies, ensuring the company remains competitive and profitable. The chosen candidate will work closely with various departments, leveraging their expertise to implement innovative procurement processes and support long-term business objectives.

Reporting to the President, the Director of Purchasing will oversee the strategic direction and execution of all purchasing and procurement activities across all buying channels, with a focus on power tools. This role will lead category managers and buyers in developing and implementing category strategies, driving cost savings, developing pricing strategies, and cultivating strong supplier relationships to support the company’s objectives. The Director of Purchasing will be required to work cross-functionally and collaboratively with teams in Marketing, Supply Chain/DC, and other business areas as needed.

The ideal candidate for the Director of Purchasing role will have a proven track record in purchasing and procurement, particularly within high-growth environments. They will be strategic thinkers with solid business acumen, innovation, and experience leading change. As the first-in-command in the purchasing department, this individual will be instrumental in shaping and executing the company’s procurement strategy, focusing on power tools and battery-powered products.
This role requires a high-energy, results-oriented individual with a sense of urgency, a strong work ethic, and a team-focused, “hands-on” leadership approach. The ideal candidate will be solution- and support-oriented, collaborative, transparent, and direct, able to build strong, respectful relationships and communicate effectively and persuasively with others.
The successful candidate must possess excellent problem-solving skills, exceptional time management, interpersonal and communication skills, and be a strong leader with an adaptable and innovative mindset. Additionally, the ideal candidate will have a growth mindset and the ability to proactively correct errors and improve outcomes.
What we are looking for:
To be considered for this impactful role, candidates must possess the following qualifications and experiences:
- Overall: 10+ years of leadership experience with a track record of progression in procurement and purchasing roles.
- Leadership: Demonstrate the ability to lead a team of buyers and category managers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and development. Experience in managing strategic buys, demand forecasting, and vendor relations is essential.
- Education: Hold a post-secondary degree in Business Administration, Economics, or a related field.
- Technical Skills:
- Intermediate knowledge and experience with Excel. Knowledge of NetSuite is beneficial but not required.
- Strong record of negotiating skills and category management experience.
- Ability to foster strong and positive relationships with key stakeholders and suppliers.
- Demonstrated experience in successfully achieving positive strategic business outcomes, demonstrating strong business acumen.
- Knowledgeable of business products, industry best practices, and proven record of setting performance metrics.
